From Locke's Second Treatise, we learn that humans have both a right of nature and a law of nature, where our right is protected and the law is unbreakable. However, when considering Harris's argument that the right to whiteness as property should not be protected, it might seem like she goes against Lockean reason. After all, to be white is a part of one's self, the most fundamental property. We all have a right to protect our property and no one can take our property with our consent. However, when considering the law of nature, Harris' argument for denying protection to whiteness as property falls more in line with Locke's beliefs.  The law of nature requires that all humans treat others the same way as they would treat themselves for we are all equal (the golden rule). Smith, Locke, and The Rights of Workers

While reading Smith’s Section III Chapter II titled “ Of the origin of Ambition, and the distinction of Ranks ,” I kept thinking about the relationship between capital owners and laborers. Smith writes a lot about why we as a society value the ruling class and keep them in place. Smith attributes this to the innate nature of sympathy present in all humans. Smith writes, “It is because mankind are disposed to sympathize more entirely with our joy than with our sorrow, that we make parade of our riches, and conceal our poverty.” (50)  However, Smith’s argument raised one question for me: what would happen if the public was better informed about how this system was created? In other words, if the general public learned that the ruling class set up this system to benefit them and actively recognized this, would public “sympathy” change so dramatically that the ruling class would no longer be protected? Global Racial Empire vs Materlialism (marxism)

In reading Taiwo's Reconsidering Reparations  I was reminded quickly of reading about materialism in Marx's The German Ideology . Marx built a framework that viewed nearly every aspect of society, from basic family dynamics to tools to language to industry as a result of humans fulfilling their material needs. Taiwo cites author Charles Mills who argued for a framework of "global white supremacy" as a political system  that results from the fact that "the world has been foundationally shaped for the past five hundred years by the gradual consolidation of global white supremacy" (25). Taiwo goes on to say that his book agrees with this theory.  I do not object the the fact that global white supremacy has affected nearly the entire world.
